What To Expect When You Reach Out
What Happens When I Reach Out to Sarah?
We’ll schedule a time to chat briefly by phone to ensure I’m a good fit. We will discuss:
Ongoing issues
Your location (I only see clients in Pennsylvania and Texas)
A few screening questions
Logistics and scheduling
What Happens Next?
You will fill out intake and demographic forms and put a credit card on file.
Getting Settled (Virtual Therapy):
If we’re doing therapy virtually, find a quiet room where you won’t be overheard or disturbed (though non-disruptive pets are welcome)
Find a comfortable place to sit. I recommend not conducting sessions from bed.
Close other tabs on your computer
Getting Settled (In Person)
Please arrive a few minutes early for the first appointment to give yourself time to find the office
Turn phone on silent
During the First Few Sessions:
The first few sessions are a deep dive for me to learn more about your life now, the presenting problem(s), and your history. Topics include:
What brought you to therapy
Why now?
How those issues have impacted your life and relationships
Detailed family history
Current coping mechanisms
Relevant medical issues and medications
Therapeutic goals
How you would know that we’re making progress
My Expectations of Clients:
Show up on time and ready to do the work
Active participation in therapy
If appointments need to be rescheduled, provide 24 hours notice (or I’ll have to charge for the session)
Cancellation policy
Cancellations and rescheduling must be done 24 hours in advance (and if the appointment is on Monday, cancellations must happen by Friday). The client is responsible for the entire fee for cancellations in under 24 hours.
Payment is expected at the time of treatment.
Insurance
I do not accept insurance at this time. I do provide receipts for out-of-network reimbursement.
